Helping adults confront the inner critic and past traumas that contribute to feelings of depression.

Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. Also called major depressive disorder or clinical depression, it affects how you feel, think and behave and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. You may have trouble doing normal day-to-day activities, and sometimes you may feel as if life isn't worth living.

More than just a bout of the blues, depression isn't a weakness and you can't simply "snap out" of it. Working with a therapist to unpack your emotions can help identify the cause of some of the depressive feelings and/or consulting about other options in addition to therapy that would be the best individualized plan for treatment for you.

Symptoms of depression can include:
Depressed mood
Diminished interest in activities
Weight loss or weight gain changes in sleep patterns
Lack of energy
Feelings of worthlessness
Difficulty concentrating
Suicidal thoughts

The goal of therapy would be to find connections in past experiences and seeing how those events might contribute to feelings of depression as well as to work on any negative self talk that may be contributing to the feelings of depression.
